Indonesian government is ready to acquire Boeing Business Jet 2 (BBJ2) for presidential use. So
far, the government chartered Garuda Indonesia and Pelita Air Service (PAS) to transport the
president and his delegation everywhere on earth, which is proven to be inefficient in term of cost
and operation.
The Boeing business jet 2, is an evolution of the BBJ family, providing a 25% increase in cabin volume and 100% increase in cargo volume compared to the BBJ 1. The aircraft’s long-range capability allows direct non-stop flight from New York to London, Moscow or Dubai, or from London to Rio de Janeiro, Johannesburg, Singapore or Tokyo.
The aircraft are manufactured at the Boeing Commercial Airplane Group manufacturing facilities at Renton in Washington. The customer selects an interior design company and completion centre for the installation of the interior fitting. Boeing Business Jets transfer the aircraft in a ‘green condition’, i.e. unpainted and without the interior fittings, to the completion centre where the interiors are installed and painting is completed.
This aint the first indonesian president’s air. Once, Indonesia had Ilyushin Il-18 (code name Dolok Martimbang) which was a gift from Uni Sovyet. Then he also used Boeing 707, to match with US Airforce One. When the helm of stated moved to Soeharto, Indonesia acquired Fokker F-28, and then BAe -146 as his official airplane, while for long haul travel, Soeharto hopped on DC-8.
